MARKETING INSIGHTS TO HELP YOUR BUSINESS

Down With The ‘Web 2.0 Look’

Web designer Elliot Jay Stocks has been proclaiming the death of the “Web 2.0” look since as far back at 2007. But what is the 2.0 look, and why is it dead? Maybe the most important thing to remember about the web design standards of yesteryear is that shiny just isn’t cool anymore. The web today is inundated with overdone stylization. But it’s hard to come up with something completely original these days. If you want to start out by avoiding the overdone, stay away from these outdated web design habits:

What’s NOT Hot:

-High contrast colors

-Bevelled edges

-Glossy/reflective surfaces

-Reflected logos

-Gradients

-Splash illustrations

Keep it simple, not shiny. Still don’t get it? Head on back to 2007 to check out the video of Stock’s presentation at the NYC Future of Web Design Conference.
